Sauvignon Blanc might just be the unsung hero of Washington State. It is only the 4th most-planted white grape (after Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris/Grigio), but in the right hands, it yields a dry, crisp wine with aromas and flavors of peach, pear, mango, and citrus. Better yet, it’s rarely too hard on the wallet, usually clocking in under $20.
Claar Cellars, a certified sustainable winery in the White Bluffs region of Washington’s Columbia Valley specializes in fresh, fruit forward whites and velvety reds. This is one of the former: green apple, peach, fresh herbs, passionfruit, and a zesty mineral finish. It’s a perfect pairing for warm weather fare: goat cheese, vegetable risotto, salads, omelets. The price doesn’t hurt, either.
