La Folie Luce L’Ecart Saumur Blanc Duo

Loïc Terquem is a native Parisian who, after a career in IT, was bitten by the wine bug. He acquired a small vineyard, moved his family to the Loire in 2009, and has never looked back, naming his domaine La Folie, or ‘the madness’, and Luce for his sons Lucas and Cesar. His Chenin is grown on almost pure limestone, farmed organically and biodynamically, fermented with ambient yeasts, and neither fined nor filtered. Aromas and flavors of citrus, apricot, honeydew melon, and fresh herbs mingle with mineral notes and racy acidity. 12 months in large old oak lends a creamy complexity. Loïc’s favorite maxim, ‘abuse of moderation seriously harms consumption’ does not apply here, because there’s nothing moderate about this wine; it’s flat-out delicious!

In short, L’Ecart is the type of wine hot young sommeliers do backflips over, but during Covid, it sat in the warehouse. Luckily for us, this type of Chenin only improves with age. Even luckier: picking it up at this price.
