While Grenache is the mainstay at Roger Sabon, they also grow Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Terret Noir, Counoise, Vaccarèse Muscardin, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc. Some fairly old Syrah vines (60-90+years) planted on limestone outcrops are an important component of the Prestige bottling. This cuvee, sourced from some of the estate’s oldest vines planted on red clay soils covered with a layer of galets in La Crau, Cabrières, and Le Grand Pierre, Prestige is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Muscardin, and Terret Noir. Many of the vines are over 100 years old.

Gorgeously rich raspberry and plum flavors, plus saddle leather, black pepper, licorice, vanilla, and toasted bread. Supremely silky, but with subtle earthy notes, this is a wine that will reward aging, but you could drink it now if you’re the impatient sort. Just give it plenty of air and pair it with something meaty.
