If you like a good Cabernet Sauvignon-the holy trinity of fruit, spice, and slightly smoky oak- you might also like Tempranillo. If you also like bargains, then you will LOVE this particular Tempranillo.

The same river that the Portuguese call the Douro becomes the Duero at the Spanish border. The local variety of Tempranillo, Tinto Fino, combines with high altitude vineyards and a Continental climate (blazing hot summers, long cold winters) to produce wines that balance full, generous fruit with good acidity. Many Spaniards claim that Ribeira del Duero is the purest expression of the Tempranillo grape. I can’t disagree.

12 months in American oak barrels (‘roble’ means oak) adds notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and buttered toast to this plummy rich Tempranillo, joining aromas and flavors of deep black cherry, cigar box, saddle leather, and spice
