Pessac-Leognan is a split from the Graves area, created in 1987. It is a recent date if we compare it with other Médoc areas. Its condition and identity, with its gravel soils of the great Graves area, have allowed it to create the most specific “appellation”.

Located on one of the appellation’s finest gravel outcrops, Château La Garde was one of the first vineyard estates to make a conscious commitment to preserve and protect the natural environment and adopt integrated viticulture. It is an approach resulting in the production of premium quality grapes and is fully mindful of both Man and the environment. The white wines of Château La Garde reveal an appealing personality on par with the finest Pessac-Leognan wines.

The Sauvignon Blanc variety plays a leading role in the blend and is sourced from a deep vein of limestone clay totally unique to the appellation. The Sauvignon Blanc varietal develops a rare, extremely precise aromatic expression, which enhances the generous Semillon cultivated on gravel. The use of a small amount of new French oak barrels is one of the reasons that this wine can and does age so well. This 2011 is drinking perfectly right now and will continue to develop for another 3-5 years.
