Old Friends & Sequels
On the day after we moved from our first (brief) location on King Street to our present home, Sheri Carl spent roughly 10 hours helping me move cases. The two of us took a random pile of wine and liquor that had been deposited in the middle of the floor and put it where it belonged, building case stacks, filling racks and displays. It was exhausting and frustrating work, and to be crystal clear: Sheri didn’t and doesn’t work for Pour Richard’s. She worked for one of our distributors and knew that I really needed help. So she helped me.
So Sheri has been ‘with’ us from the first. If you’re part of our community, if you’ve been to any of our events, you probably know Sheri. Her combination of killer wines and sarcastic witty humor are irresistible. She’s the only rep who can get away with busting my chops about my North Dakota roots. The picture above was taken after she vanquished Rich Ricci at last year’s Favorites Taste-Off. And yes, we definitely regretted giving her a crown! But we never regret doing business with her.
When we decided to try out socially-distanced outdoor tastings, Sheri was the first rep to volunteer. She was there as we worked out the kinks: wind, too much sun, oops, let’s move the table to the other side. The process was not unlike that long-ago moving day, but in the end it worked out fine.
Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of sequels. In my experience, they tend to over-promise and under-deliver. But for our last outdoor tasting next Saturday, Sheri gets her own sequel. She’s earned it, and I’m pretty confident we’ll all enjoy.
