Usually, a Super-Tuscan is some blend of Cabernet and Merlot. Maybe you add some Syrah, or you might stick with the local hero, Sangiovese. But the core of the wine is generally a Cabernet, because the Super Tuscan genre was a result of Tuscan winemakers rebelling against the strictures (and the perceived low quality) of Chianti in the 1970’s. Bordeaux was seen as a classier region, and Cabernet was THE grape of Bordeaux, so Cab became king. Just not with this wine…
This unusual Super-Tuscan is a collaboration between Stefano Casadei and his American importer, Fred Cline. Sogno Mediterraneo, or ‘Mediterranean Dream’ is composed of Rhone grape varieties-Cline’s specialty- but with a strong dose of Tuscan terroir. Dark berries, black cherry, tobacco, and spice. Casadei translates as the house of God, or possibly heaven. So: heavenly dreams of the Mediterranean? Yes, please! Elevate weeknight pizza or up your grilling game-either way, this wine is the answer.
