Casadei Petit Verdot

Suvereto, in the Tuscan province of Livorno, has a long and storied tradition of vines and wine, dating to Roman and  Etruscan times. And why not? Perched on the coastline of Tuscany, with abundant sunshine, cooling maritime breezes, and a patchwork of soils ranging from volcanic tufa to pure limestone, Suvereto is such a perfect setting for vines that Dionysus himself might have designed it. Stefano Casadei established his eponymous winery here, nestled in the hills just off the coast, aiming for wines of 'balance, elegance, purity, and charm'. But Petite Verdot-what’s a Bordeaux blending grape doing here? Well.....Winemakers covet it, because it adds needed structure and voluptuous aroma. But even the best Bordeaux might contain only 5% or less, because Petit Verdot can suffer from various forms of mildew. In sunny coastal Tuscany, mildew is not a problem. Petit Verdot can play the starring role, in all its plum and cassis-laden glory. Full, rich, voluptuous palate. Warm, toasty vanilla-scented oak. Grace notes of lilac, sage, and dusty minerals round out the long, supple finish. Short version: Stunning. Delicious. And a ridiculous bargain.
